Micah 6:8 H

Micah was considered a minor prophet, not because of his message, but because of the volume of his writings. He was a contemporary of the heavy hitting prophet, Isaiah, and in their day, false prophets, corruption, and idol worship abounded. Although Micah lived in Judah (the south), he prophesied against Jerusalem and Samaria (the north). His best known words are likely, “What does God require of you? To act justly, love mercy, walk humbly with your God.” (Micah 6:8) Good advice... unfortunately not taken. With only seven chapters, Micah is jam-packed with gloom, doom and destruction, but there is also something very special in these verses. Israel is promised a leader, a homecoming, and a renewed and awesome relationship with God. In Micah 5:2 the prophet describes Israel’s future leader, “whose origins are of old, from ancient times”. It is one of the many verses that attests to Jesus’ pre-existence before and outside of time. He was incarnated at birth, but it’s crystal clear that He has always been. In a lovely little side note: How did the Magi find that newborn King those many hundreds of years later? The star led them to Israel, but Micah 5:2 got them to Bethlehem.
