This verse is legit… times two! Originally stated by Moses just before his death and repeated by the elegant, but unknown writer of Hebrews. In both circumstances, the words are directed at God’s people who are pressing onward to the promised land. In Deuteronomy 31:6, the verse is applied as Joshua and the Israelites are facing battles with some seriously scary foreign nations. In Hebrews 13:5, it is applied as new Hebrew Christians are facing persecution by Nero AND their unconverted Jewish counterparts. Even worse, they’re facing the introduction of willful sin and apostasy into the church, some of which appears to be unpardonable. Twelve hundred years apart, God was leading both peoples to a new place He had for them. Interestingly, God warned His people about judgement in Deuteronomy 32 (written in 1400-1200 BC) and again in Hebrews 12, (mid 60’s AD). How very consistent our God is! “He will never leave you, nor forsake you.” This encouraging verse is applicable in any time period and to anyone who is repentant and running in faith with outstretched arms for I AM. If you’re His, He will not forsake you. EVER! NEVER, EVER!
