Jesus spends much of John 8 trying to teach the Jews not only about judgement, but about His departure, and His relationship with His Heavenly Father. Much of what He says is lost on those listening, but a group of Jews came to believe. Jesus says to them, "If you hold to my teaching, you are really my disciples. Then you will know the truth and the truth will set you free." (John 8:31-32). Believing who Jesus was meant also putting His teachings into practice and, by extension, becoming His disciples. Discipleship, obeying His commandments, introducing people to Him and His teachings- these things set us free from sin. When we know Jesus, we are free from it's bondage and it's hold on our lives. When we know the truth- that Jesus is the Son of God, our Savior, and we stand on grace, we are truly free.
