Isaiah’s ministry was from 740-700 BC. Chapter 53 of Isaiah is referred to as the Suffering Servant passage, and was written almost 800 years before Jesus’ time. Historically accurate, theologically precise, and undeniably about Jesus, Isaiah penned prophecy, not history. For hundreds of years critics argued that chapters 40 and on were written historically, AFTER they occurred. But thanks to the prized Dead Sea scrolls, we know without question that the oldest manuscript of Isaiah was written at least 100 years before Jesus’ ministry and it is stunningly accurate. The Qumran copy is 1,000 years older than the copy which was translated for the first King James Bible and, no surprise, it is virtually identical to younger copies. In the world of Biblical apologetics, (the defense of our faith), this is bell ringing, confetti throwing, praise lifting, siren sounding information! But again, not surprising. There are few things more compelling, convincing, encouraging, humbling and life-changing for doubters and believers alike than irrefutable fulfillment of Biblical prophecy. Our Bible is bursting at the seams with it!
