David recognizes the magnificence of God's work forming us from conception and therefore knowing everything about us. He praises God for these things throughout chapter 139. But why did David say he was,"fearfully" made? The Hebrew word used here and in numerous other places by David for "fearfully" is yare, (Strong's 3372) which means "to fear; morally, to revere" or "to be awed or stand in awe of". Clearly, David was expressing the reverence, awe and wonder he feels when he considers his own body and person a work by God Himself. Nothing brings about reverence and respect for the Creator more than the study of the human body. We, like all creation, testify to His authority and majesty.
